Thing 22

Published by under Uncategorized

The classroom 2.0 exploration was a good  resource  for me.  Going into the the forums, and seeing all the different dettings  was  very productive.  There were tools  there for many  people in education. From suppoer personal  all the way to  school leeaders.  In the groups category I found the instructors  resources  to be  a good  quick help.    There was also a section where you  could  search for  videos .  I think  that social networking iswill grow in the future as more and more peoploe adapt  to the use of these  resources.  This  is a great way to organize  all of the things we use to accomplish  tasks.future.   The  students of tomorrow are already here and we have to be prepared  to teach them  in an environment that they are already accustomed  to.

I liked developing a habit  of using  google docs to check for  online curriculum. The  ‘successful  teacher’  blog is  a useful   tool for  quick resources  and ideas. Its  sometmes difficult to  come up with a brand new idea  and  make ir work from scratch. Often,   just lookin gat other resourcs  can trigger  an idea  that I can use to  start some new curricula.

Thing 20 (Week 9) – Online Office: Getting Started with Google Docs

Published by under Uncategorized

I found  this weeks exercise to be  very useful. I am looking forward to  using this with peers when possible. I like the idea of  one document vs  emailing attachments.  Again, this is a very  productive and more effective way at  relaying and organizing information to maximize your own productivity and  manage efforts.

For an example of how I would use this in a collaborative manner would be to upload a  safety document for my  program, invite fellow instructors from the state to view and edit , comment, etc. I wold then  wait and view all the comments and editing at once instead of opening numerous emails and  trying to remember the contents of each!  Very nice  Job  Computer Potatoes!

Thing 19 (Week 8): A Tale of Two Tubes – Video Sharing in the Classroom

Published by under Uncategorized

yellowstone super volcanoe  If this link doesent  load    try this  http://k12l20sandbox2.wikispaces.com/

This week we were tasked with   learning about the special  features  of both  Teacher Tube & You Tube. The  latter I think most of the genral public is awae of seeing how millions post every day. The forementioned i found  interesting in the fact that it also has a  document  or  “docs” component to it. I could see myself usinng it for a potential teacher resource, before I was going to implement new curricula.

Thing 18 (Week 8): Publish a “Bare Bones” Podcast

Published by under Uncategorized

I would  use the  pod cast   for  shop safety. We spent a  great  deal and effort of time, hours going over safety. It is very  difficult to remember to hit all the  important criteria  regarding a special piece of equipment, even with  notes used years past. When there are changes in items, we have to rewrite our safety to reflect those. Doing a podcast for safety would save us a lot of effort and the kids would remember  more  VS  them falling asleep or  rolling their eyse when listening to  how  to check the drill  platform for proper alignment before starting their drilling job  . Actually,I think I caught  you falling asleep fpr a momemt  there as well!

Making a pod cast for me, the audio style  was just a minute long recording on  our national park, Yellowstone. It  was nice learning about  something meaningful and exciting at the same time. This is information I may actually use again in conversation, so, not  time wasted!

Thing 17 (Week 8): Explore Podcasting

Published by under Uncategorized

For me, this exercise  was a chore to say the least.  Clicking on page after page, finding more and more  internet pages to read.  I previewed  an assortment  of podcast, everything from online library, to  local educational  podcasts.  Incorporating these types of things into the classroom again, beinf  a shop instructor, is hard to  vision this  making any difference.  I think these things  that er are doing are good fro transferring information, it does not  make any  guarantee that learning is going to happen. Learning comes from  internal, not all the external  ‘stuff’  we are throwing at them.

Thing 16 (Week 7): LibraryThing – Where Books Meet Web 2.0

Published by under Uncategorized

The online library is a  useful tool in several ways. First, simply by typing in the item name your looking for you can  see a listing of related books. Barnes Noble had  this search engine first and others inbetween, no suprise there really. The advantage  this has is the ability to network and link. As an educator I can see where they may create a  ‘classroom’ profile  for example   Mrs greys 5th Gr Reading, and net work with students and family.  This site also has  information on current events in the industry for people who are looking for the cutting edge. Again, a very useful tool put into the hands of someone willing to use it!

Thing 15 (Week 7): Social Bookmarking with Delicious

Published by under Uncategorized and tagged:

Another fine tool developed by those fine internet people!  A very handy resource which could greatly be used in the business world. For example a  company that  makes a lot of purchases, and  has to shop around constantly  would benefit  fromj having the luxury of having all their employees looking at the same  FREE data base that they could build company wide. It really  a free encyclopedia.

I put some useful, nuts n bolts type of sites up their to get started

I can see myself using this quite a bit!

Thing 7b (Week 6) & Thing 7c (Week 9): Google Reader Redux

Published by under Uncategorized

One of the subscriptions I have,  called  instructify   has had hundreds of blogs & article pertaining to education. One in particular called ScreenToaster is a good way to demonstrate the ability to create a way or format to store your videos. In addition, ScreenToaster allows you to record a video that can be later used in a pod cast or simlar format or educational puposes. this site has many featurees that allow  you to custom fir the format and info for your age level students. ScreenToaster also allows you to add captions once you’ve recorded your video.

Thing 14 (Week 6): Explore a Tool of Your Choice

Published by under Uncategorized

One of the tools I used was called:       Blabberizehttp://blabberize.com

i did not know until I was into it , that it was not really a tool, unless  you teach a  media class and  have a ‘fun’  project  to do. I cant see this being used across the general  curriculum  and passing the mcas at the same time. There were other  tools a lot more conducive to work vs play. A fine line  , which is crossed all  too often on the internet. The boundaroes are   scarcely marked, and most are not even looking for them! I decided to include my son in this  ‘fun’ task and we enjoyed watchin him in a picture at the diner table where somebody (?)  made him laugh so hard that his milk ended up on the table, oh my!
